Can anyone put this into laymans terms when it comes to Google Webmaster search console. I had a message that read:
Search Console has identified that some pages on your site are not being indexed due to the following new reason:
Duplicate without user-selected canonical
If this reason is not intentional, we recommend that you fix it in order to get affected pages indexed and appearing on Google.
The only duplicate that I can see in the pages is the word Category, thats one of the menu items I have listed, I would think its impractical to have anything else to satisfy Google. Perhaps I am wrong, but I wonder how we can get over this problem. What have you done? Is it such a simple fix that I am can't see the wood for the trees or have I missed the point entirely.
I would be very grateful to hear as I currently have 219 pages that are not being indexed!! Thats a lot and I could really do with this working and being indexed.
Thanks everyone.
Just to add I have 201 categories on my site, so the links that Google doesnt like are https://mysite.com/category/bakery (this is just an example so in all 201 links, the word category is in each one of them. I don't think Google likes it. :(
Great you take a focus and try to improve this very important issue. pls create a ticket for this so it can go to the bug logs for update next version and have you check and read previous SEO (SEF) posts issues about this too?
See and read these ones...

Not sure why I need to create a ticket as its obviously a problem for J-business directory thats been pointed out before via your links. So its over a year since they knew about it, probably longer, and there is no change on the upgrades that have occurred.
So do we wait for a solution from CMSJUNKIE or do we find something else that suits the job? I really like J-business directory in the way that it works and the style of it, but SEO could definitely be a lot better and I really hope that some update makes some real difference for our directories.
There were no issues identified in J-BusinessDirectory—only misconfigurations on the websites.
We have integrated all construction-related feedback into the product to enhance SEO.
You can remove the word "category" from the URL in General Settings → SEO tab.
George, thank you for the help. Does this mean that if we do NOT put anything in the URL fields that Google would prefer that?
Also, makes me question why have the URL fields in the first place? If you can explain that to me, then perhaps we can make better choices for our own individual websites. I just assumed that the URL field was important for Google to index using those options, but perhaps my mind works in a different way. Seems that leaving the URL field completely empty will be more beneficial. Is that correct?
ps.... the help option doesnt explain it that much at all. Maybe that needs updating to help others?
hmmm

And how does it works in a multi-langauge site for better SEO? whats the solution leave it empty but seems then JBD add that part automatically there in backend admin settings?

There were some requests to add more fields on the URL for better localization but this is not always a good practice.
We suggest to set the "Category URL Type" to simple (this will remove the category keyword) if it does not create issues for you.
The keyword was added to avoid conflicts with Joomla categories if your articles has the same category name with JBD category name.
Thank you George. Appreciate the information.
